Powell County High School offers the following Math courses: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Senior Math, Intermediate Algebra, and College Algebra. Students are required to take a math course all four years of high school in the state of Kentucky. The state of Kentucky also requires that each student pass Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. The fourth class will depend on the student’s need and eligibility based on future goals. In addition, PCHS requires students to pass a math course their senior year.
The fourth requirement: Senior Math is for our students who are not planning to go to college or have not received a high enough ACT score to take College Algebra. Intermediate Algebra is for those students wanting to go to college but do not have the 22 in Math on their ACT, nor a passing score on the KYOTE or Compass placement test to move into College Algebra. College Algebra is for those students who have received a 22 on the Math section of the ACT or who have “passed” the KYOTE or Compass.
Below are the teachers and the courses they teach:
Monica Mynk: Senior Math, Problem Solving, and MSU dual-credit mathematics
Martin Christensen: Algebra II and Pre-Calculus
