Homework Folder: The Homework Folder is a two-pocket folder that your child will carry to and from school each day. It is used to house EVERYTHING students and parents will need to keep up with what is going on at school. The Homework Folder is very important. It will help your child learn to be organized, which is a very valuable life skill. Your child will bring their homework folder home each night. Please take out all graded/checked papers and be sure to sign/initial your child’s homework sheet once you have checked to make sure their homework is complete. This folder and is our way of keeping communication ongoing by having you sign/initial each night on their homework sheet. I will check the folder each morning folder for any notes, money, permission slips, etc.

Back pocket of the folder- Return to School

This is where your child’s homework will be each night. Once homework is complete, just place it back on this side of the folder. Weekly newsletters will be placed on this side as well on Monday’s. I like to place it on the Return to School side that way you and your child know where it is everyday and it doesn’t get lost or misplaced throughout the week. Also, anything that needs to be signed and returned will be placed on this side of the folder as well, at the front, so that you see it.

Front pocket of the folder- Keep at Home

Daily work that has been graded/checked will be placed in this pocket. Please remove these papers each night! Everything that is graded/checked will have a stamp, sticker, grade, check mark, or rubric score on it to ensure that you know it is meant to stay at home. Also, any papers being sent home by the school will be on this side, in the very front, just so you see it.

Middle of the Folder

This is where your child’s calendar will be. Your child will color their behavior for each day there so that you can see it. It will also, on the reverse side, be the place where you will sign for their homework for each night.

Homework: Homework will be assigned each night Monday thru Thursday in Reading/Spelling and other subjects as needed. Your child will be expected to study their spelling words any way they want and read 20 minutes each night. Any unfinished work from the day will also be sent home for your child to complete. We try not to give homework over the weekend because we believe that it should be spent with family and we all need a little free time. There will, however be occasions when there will be at home projects to be completed over a period of time that could include weekends. It is the responsibility of the child to make sure all homework is turned in on time.

Snacks and Water Bottles: Your child is to bring an individual snack to school each day to enjoy in the afternoon. Your child may also have a water bottle with WATER ONLY and it MUST have a lid, no straws.

Box TopsOur school earns money from collecting Box Tops. Please check things at home and send those in with your child in their folder.

Contact InformationThe ways to communicate with us are through the folder, school phone 606-663-3313, or through email and

Behavior ManagementEach classroom will have a clip chart that will be used to track behavior. Students will start each day on green and can move up for positive behavior, or down for not following rules or procedures. Your child’s behavior sheet will be located in the middle of their folder so that you can see which color they are on each day. The colors on the behavior chart are as follows from the highest color they can achieve to the lowest.

Green- Ready to learn- Starting point on each day

Yellow- 5 minutes of recess lost

Orange- 10 minutes of recess lost

Red- Parent contact and loss of recess

Daily Specials: At this time, we do not have a set specials schedule. Please be on the lookout in your child’s folder for a schedule once it is set. On PE days, please ensure that your child wears tennis shoes. Tennis shoes are recommended daily, but not required, just to make recess easier. Flip flops are not banned, but they are not encouraged to wear because they do break so easily.
